SWEEKAAR REHABILITATION INSTITUTE FOR HANDICAPPED, TANDUR
Upkaar Rural Institute for Rehabilitation of Disabled started operating on Ugadi i.e. on 15th April 2005. The center provided services related to early Intervention, Physiotherapy, Speech therapy and Hearing testing.
In May 2005 it was decided to start Training Courses in the area of Hearing Impairment at this center.
On 17th Aug 2005 Chief Minister Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy visited our institute and inaugurated the college of Speech and Hearing.
On 17th Oct 2005, after obtaining Universitys approval both B.SC (ASLP) and DHLS Courses were started. We are presently having 17 students in B.Sc (ASLP) 1st year and 13 Students in DHLS current batch (3rd Batch).
Sweekaar institute of Audiology and speech-language pathology has progressively developed not only in terms of strength of students but also in terms of quality of the training programme. Started in the year 2005 with 18 students in B.Sc (ASLP) it has grown to 48 students now. This was possible with the permission of RCI, O.U. and A.P. State council for Higher Education and the team effort of SWEEKAAR management and staff.
HIGHLIGHTS
New building:
Building inauguration: the area of the building is 1.5 acres out of 4.5 acre land with the estimation of Rs 15 crore. The foundation stone of the building was laid on 18-08-06, by Shri. Narayana Rao (MLA), P. Laxma Reddy, Sabitha Indra Reddy.
Hearing aid distribution:
For the first time in the history of Sweekaar, Tandur, hearing aids were distributed free of cost with the support of M/s. Vishaka Steel Plant. They provided body level hearing aids for both child and adult with hearing impairment.
