RESEARCH, INFORMATION & DOCUMENTATION CENTRE
This center was started in areas connected with Mental Health & Rehabilitation services of the Disabled in 1978. The scenario in disability field is rapidly changing. New diseases and new techniques in medical treatment are giving rise to unexpected disabilities. Environmental factors also contribute to the pattern of Mental Health of disabilities. It is, therefore, vital to undertake research programs to develop various materials and strategies for dealing with the diverse needs of people with different disabilities and Mental Health problems.
Research has found a prominent place in the academic records of Sweekaar.
Aims & Objectives:
• To provide useful information through analysis testing and observation of the cases.
• To create awareness about various Mental Health problems and their probable causes so as to carryout effective, remediation and treatment.
• To publish research findings/papers in journals and make people aware of various risk factors and services provided by Sweekaar.
• To make the general people aware about the evidence based treatment in Mental Health problems developmental disabilities, hearing disability, autism, drug dependence etc.,
Activities:
• Conducting research in Prevention, Early Identification, Early Intervention, therapeutic management, Rehabilitation and Integration.
• Data Collection, Analysis and production of Information material.
• Presentation of Research reports/paper in conferences / seminars.
• Collaborate with other institutions.
• Create awareness on Disability issues & mental health problems at the grass root level, such as parents and community level volunteers.
• Conducting of Orientation/ Awareness programmes for administrators of different Govt. departments, e.g. Education, Health, Welfare, Rural & urban Colleges, schools etc.
• Sensitization of print and Electronic media on disability and mental health issues.
PROJECTS COMPLETED:
1. Mental Health Status and Quality of life of aged residing in Home for the Aged.
2.Effect of psychological intervention for alcoholics in residential treatment facility.
3.Impact of Disability on the family and the needs of families of disabled
Children. 4.Study of Clinical manifestation & cognitive abilities of Autistic children.
PROJECTS IN PROGRESS:
1. Study of Clinical manifestation & cognitive abilities of Autistic children.
2. Emotional distress and coping strategies of parents of autistic children.
3. Effects of comprehensive Education for Learning disabled children.
4. Psychosocial needs and experience of satisfaction on life of aged residing in home for aged in south India.
5. Cognitive Impairment and depression in old age people.
FUTURE PROJECTS:
Neuropsychological Functions of Cases with Depression and Mania in Recovery Phase. Clinical Features and Social Functioning in Homeless Schizophrenics Different stages of Burnout syndrome and its efficacy among professionals working in disabilities area. Management of Anxiety based disorders –comprehensive approach. Study of Psychological Aspects of children with HIV Positive in Residential Care Home .
Planned Activities
• Increasing the collection of specialized books and to subscribe for good number of technical journals pertaining to speech & hearing and psychology Subjects.
• Computerizing the library services and activities.
