One of the major goals of Special School for the Mentally Challenged is to enable the students to become productive members of the society. Every effort is being made to achieve this goal. A holistic approach is adopted to teach and train a child catering not only to the needs of the disabled child but also its entire family.
Parent - teacher interactions occur on a fortnightly basis, while meetings and training sessions for parents are conducted once in two months. Parents are encouraged to seek help from the counsellors and clinical psychologists for any of their problems. A Parent Support Group facilitates this process.
The classes are categorised as pre-primary, primary, secondary, pre-vocational, and vocational. A child is placed in any of these five groups depending upon their age and general level of functioning.
