| How can we identify that the child is Mentally Retarded ? |
| If a child is having poor self- help skills, poor attention, concentration, poor memory, poor eye- contact, poor eye-hand coordination, behavior problems, restlessness etc. then these are the signs to indicate that the child is mentally retarded. |
| Is Mental Retardation, a disease ? |
| No, it is not a disease; it is a condition of arrested or incomplete development of brain: which is characterized by sub- normality of intelligence. |
| Is Mental Retardation curable ? |
| No,It is not a disease, so there is no question of cure, but through special education services we can make the child as independent as possible. |
| How is HSS different from any other special schools ? |
| We are not only providing special education to the child but therapeutic aspect of rehabilitation also is being taken care of. |
| After schooling where does the child with Mental Retardation go ? |
| HSS, has vocational training centre in which children are given training to earn & live independently. After training they are given job placement which may be inside or outside the Institute. |
| Is HSS a private school ? |
| No, HSS is run by Sweekaar, a non- profit, a non- commercial voluntary organization. |
| Who can join HSS ? |
| The child who has been diagnosed as a mild or with moderate Mental Retardation. |
| How do I enroll my child in HSS ? |
| There will be a detailed evaluation by medical Rehabilitation Specialist and a team of Rehabilitation professionals. It will come with final diagnosis. Depending on the diagnosis, Medical Rehabilitation Specialist will recommend for admission. |
| What is the fee structure ? |
Fee structure is very flexible and depends on the socio economic level (SEL) of the beneficiaries. It comes in the following categories:
i. Nominal Charge
ii. Cost to Cost
iii. Profit |
