What is Special School for Deaf ?
It is a special school, where approximately 452 hearing impaired students from all over Andhra Pradesh are being taught through Individual Education Programme.(IEP)
How old is SSD ?
Special School for Deaf (SSD) was added to Sweekaar Rehabilitation Institute for the Handicapped in the year 1986.
Is it a private school ?
No, SSD is run by Sweekaar Rehabilitation Institute for the Handicapped as a non profit, non commercial voluntary organization.
What are the incidence / prevalence of Hearing Impaired ?
581 persons with Hearing impaired / 1, 00,000 persons in India , i.e. roughly five children are deaf for every 1000 children born. (As per NSSO survey, 58th round).
Who can join SSD ?
Individuals must be diagnosed with hearing loss after evaluation done by professionals like Speech Therapist, Audiologist and Special Educators.
What is the strength of SSD ?
SSD had started with five children and today the strength is 492 students with 41 teachers. There are classes from pre- primary to intermediate in both Telugu and English medium.

We are having following state- of -art equipment for SSD
Loop Induction System—7 sets (1 in each classroom)
Group Hearing system — 9 sets (1 in each classroom)
Frequency module———7 sets( 1 in each classroom)
Voice lit —————— 1 set
Speech trainer ————2 sets
Who can join the SSD ?
n general, students with severe or profound hearing loss need the intensive and extensive services of a centre based school, it is to determine the admission in the school. A detailed evaluation is done by a team of rehabilitation specialists depending on the diagnosis, Rehabilitation Medical specialist recommend for the admission in SSD.
What syllabus do you follow ?
We are following the syllabus recognized by the State Government.
Do all the classrooms in the SSD have computers ?
Efforts are being made to impart education through multi-media.
What is the fee structure ?
Fee structure is very flexible and depends on the Socio Economic Level (SEL) of the beneficiaries.It comes in following categories:

ii. Cost to Cost
iii. Profit
