DRUG DE-ADDCTION CENTRE
Alcohol and Drug addiction is a common menace which not only ruins the person himself but also his entire family and the society.
The unit was started in the year 1989 with the aim of diagnosing, motivating, counseling, detoxifying and rehabilitating the alcoholics and other drug abusers.
Upkaar Drug De-addiction Centre is a pioneer voluntary, non-profit, non-commercial organization dedicated to the treatment and rehabilitation of alcohol and other drug addicts.
Objectives
To increase awareness among the people about drug/ alcohol and their adverse affect on Physical, Mental, Social, Marital, Employment, Children’s Education and their Personality Development.
To reduce/minimize the drug/alcohol demand and to remove stigma attached to addicts.

Alcoholism is psychosomatic disease, which is recognized by World Health Organization and this can be treated by providing proper medication and psychotherapy like detoxification, Counselling, family programme and some other therapies which take a period of one month. Treatment will be done following various therapies.

Irrespective of economic strata, treatment is provided to all addicts from all walks of life abusing any drug ranging from alcohol, narcotic analgesics, cannabis, sibilance, impatience, hallucinogens and cough syrup etc.
The center offers a comprehensive in-patient programme, which includes the family of the alcoholic (Drug addict). The treatment includes multi disciplinary approach with the help of;

SUCCESS STORIES
Treating 250-300 patients per year. Recovering them by follow-up and proper counseling in which 45% recovers and 55% relapse after some period of treatment. Family members of recovered addicts expresses their happiness and gratitude for the treatment provided at the center. Every year 26th June will be celebrated as the “International day against, drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking”. Alcohol anonymous meeting (A.A) is available at the center.
HIV AIDS Programme
The following are the activities taken up by the organization to prevent the spreading of HIV AIDS. Conducting awareness camps among the target groups i.e. slum dwellers, truck drivers, commercial sex workers etc. by a team of specialists consisting of a general physician, psychologist, medical social worker and field workers.
